Our design process starts with our design specialists analyzing the products to be contained, in addition to the required protection and presentation. Next up is determining the purpose of the package – whether it’s being shipped, handled, stored, or displayed – followed by manufacturing and distribution considerations, like compatibility with automated carton erectors and material handling equipment. The designers then research the marketing and brand enhancement of the packaging. Regulatory considerations (if shipping hazardous material, for example), the project timeline, and the project costs round out the analysis process, along with space optimization and package palletization software to maximize container end-use. Once it’s through the design phase, the completed packaging undergoes edge crush testing and Mullen testing, which measures how much pressure is required to puncture a paperboard package and indicates its load carrying capacity under specific conditions.
